Basque Center

The Basque Center is a place to meet an old friend, play the card game “mus,” sit down to a meal, or dance to the music of the accordion and the txistu, the melodic Basque flute. It was built in 1949 and is a gathering place for Basque people in the area. The Basque community formed “Euzkaldunak, Inc.” with the intent to build a gathering place for social and cultural events. Brick, beam and mortar were later added in the traditional baserri (farmhouse) style, and the Center became a tangible symbol of this unique Idaho community. (June 8, 2014)
